This job was located in Greensborough Melbourne - Brimbank. We were asked to build a staircase with timber sleepers complimented with rocks instead of toppings. The 10mm stones were chosen over the toppings as toppings would get muddy, slippery and not suitable for this job.

As anticipated, we struck some rock clay just below the surface, but were able to achieve this neat, purposeful staircase that leads from the upper section of the home to the front section.

Timber Sleeper Staircase in Greensborough

Outdoor timber sleepers are great for creating staircases that seamlessly blend with natural surroundings. These sleepers, typically made from hardwoods like treated pine, oak, or jarrah, offer a robust solution for constructing stairs in outdoor spaces, whether it's a garden, backyard, or a staircase.

Advantages of using Treated or Hardwood Sleepers

One of the key advantages of using outdoor timber sleepers for staircases is their inherent strength and resilience. Hardwood sleepers, in particular, are known for their durability and ability to withstand the harsh elements of outdoor environments. Treated pine sleepers, which have undergone preservative treatments, exhibit resistance to decay, insects, and fungal attacks, ensuring a longer lifespan for the staircase.

Why use Timber for your next Outdoor Staircase?

The natural beauty of timber adds a timeless and organic touch to outdoor spaces. The warm tones and unique grain patterns of hardwoods create a visually appealing staircase that complements the surrounding landscape. Whether the goal is to enhance a garden's charm or provide a rustic pathway through a wooded area, timber sleepers offer a versatile and customizable solution.

Aesthetic Design and Ease of Maintenance

Crafting a staircase with outdoor timber sleepers allows for creativity in design. The sleepers can be arranged in various configurations, from a straight flight of stairs to a winding, meandering path, depending on the topography of the landscape and the desired aesthetic. The flexibility of timber sleepers enables the construction of stairs that seamlessly integrate with the natural contours of the terrain, providing both functionality and beauty. In addition to their visual appeal and flexibility, outdoor timber sleepers offer practical benefits in terms of ease of installation and maintenance. These sleepers are relatively easy to work with, making the construction process more efficient. Their substantial size and weight contribute to the stability of the staircase, ensuring a safe and secure pathway for users. Regular maintenance, such as sealing or staining, can help protect the timber and preserve its appearance over time.

The environmental sustainability of using timber sleepers is a notable factor in their favour. Responsibly sourced hardwoods and other eco-friendly materials contribute to a greener approach to construction. Many timber species used for sleepers come from sustainably managed forests, promoting a balance between harvesting and replanting. Choosing timber for outdoor staircases aligns with the growing emphasis on environmentally conscious practices in construction. Despite their numerous advantages, it's essential to consider potential challenges associated with outdoor timber sleepers. Exposure to weather conditions can lead to natural wear and tear, such as fading and warping. However, proper maintenance and periodic inspections can address these issues and prolong the life of the staircase. Evergreen Landscaping believe outdoor timber sleepers serve as an excellent choice for crafting staircases that seamlessly integrate with the natural environment. Their durability, aesthetic appeal, and environmental sustainability make them a popular option for various outdoor spaces. Whether used in private gardens, public parks, or recreational areas, timber sleepers contribute to the creation of inviting and functional outdoor staircases that stand the test of time.
